Photographer / Story Collector

Arpan Kalita

Photography for me has always been highlighting the best a place has to offer, the vibrancy of the landscapes, the architectural grandeur of monuments or the warmth and friendliness of its people. I enjoy capturing people most (no pun intended), their culture and social values which uniquely represent them.

Travelling has always connected me with happiness and good spirit. And photography has taught me to embrace simplicity, appreciate little things about life and fight my own demons because nobody else will.

Roads lesser travelled amazes me with their aroma of unfamiliarity while places visited often holds the excitement of discovering something new every single time.

While travelling, I want to know more about the people of the places, I need to know their stories and tell those stories through my photographs.

Landscape photographers are accustomed to crazy schedules, extreme climate conditions, poor connectivity and communication. They are the one’s buying headlamps to get to that pretty spot in complete scary thick darkness. It’s such a radically different experience from the other genres, that it warrants its own story.

So to the hundreds and thousands of other adventurers and travellers: what you feel and what you experience on these journeys is the most precious thing. Quench your thirst for the splendor and when you are done seeking serenity, start indulging. Stay local, eat local and if possible, talk local. Don’t just travel, get under the skin of the place.
